Bio:
Stephen took the traditional route to the position of Director of Photography - he served an apprenticeship in the Camera Dept. In 1992, he left his successful Architectural Photography practice in Philadelphia to pursue his film career in New York. He spent the next few years learning the craft of the Camera Dept., under the instruction of some of the industry's top Cinematographers - Tom Sigel, ASC; Chuck Minsky, ASC; Ken Kelsch, ASC; and Ellen Kuras, ASC.

Stephen's distinctive style began to take shape early on in his shooting career with wins at the Columbia University Graduate Film Festival - Milos Forman Award and a Best Independent Feature Award from PBS in 2000. A selection of his work includes the Showtime Network Feature "Shelter Island", New York 2nd Unit photography for Liongate's "Lord of War", "Funny Valentine" for Warner/Xenon Pictures and Torch Lake Entertainment's cult comedy "Stick It in Detroit".

The pictures, "BuzzKill" and "Santorini Blue", have been garnering praise and awards on the Festival circuit. "BuzzKill" is an official selection of the 2010 Hollywood Film Festival. It is scheduled for a release in 2011 as a Second City Presents feature. Among it's several accolades, "Santorini Blue" was nominated for Best Cinematography at the Hoboken Film Festival, 2010.

Stephen believes in keeping up with emerging camera technologies. He is an active member of the Digital Cinema Society, as well as the LA chapter of the Red Users Group.

While Stephen resides primarily in Los Angeles, he is bicoastal, maintaining a residence in New York for work. When he is not on set, Stephen likes to keep his eye sharp with his world traveled, battered Nikon F2, loaded with the venerable Kodak Tri-X.
